Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! We offer everyone one free trial lesson. This is an opportunity to meet the teacher in person, learn more details about taking lessons here, decide if it’s a good fit for you, and of course to play some music.

We only offer weekly lessons, because consistency is key to learning and improving on an instrument.

Absolutely. Lessons can be rescheduled with advance notice. Consistency in attending lessons (as well as in at-home practice) is key to making progress on an instrument. Because CPaD is a small operation, we are able to be more flexible in rescheduling lessons than larger music schools.

If advance notice is not given (regardless of the reason), the time of the lesson is still charged. This is standard practice for most if not all music schools, studios, and teachers.

Generally we teach students age 7 and up.

Although you don't need a drum set at home to start lessons, you will need one to practice at home. Most students acquire a drum set within the first couple months of starting lessons.

Yes! Learning an instrument means not only taking lessons, but also practicing daily and spending time with the instrument. There are many options for buying (or renting) a piano or keyboard that don't break the bank. Keyboards (electronic) are most often what I recommend to beginning students, as long as they have all 88 keys, and the keys are weighted.

No! You are never too old to start learning (or to return to) a musical instrument. Music can have many different roles in people's lives, but the main goal is the joy and satisfaction that comes from it. Learning to play an instrument is like exercise- you will get out of it what you put in. If you make the time for it, do it consistently, and do it with intention, you will see results no matter your age.

Yes. Reading sheet music is only one more incredible skill to develop that will give you more opportunities and independence on your instrument. Drum set, piano, and vibraphone students at CPaD all learn how to read music as one of many focuses throughout their lessons.

We strive to find solutions for students who are motivated and interested in taking lessons in the longer-term (and we have succeeded in doing so many times in the past). Please contact us for a free trial lesson regardless of your current financial situation.
